A thirty five year old apprentice Nuzubechukwu
Mbamara, yesterday, appeared before a Lagos
Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere, for
alleged theft of his employer’s N3 million and
escaped to Nnewi in Anambra State.
Mbamara, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-
count charge of theft preferred against him by
police.
The prosecutor, Eshiet Eshiet, said the
defendant committed the alleged offence
between January and October at Trade Fair
Complex in Ojo, Lagos. He said Mbamara stole
N3 million, property of his employer, one Mr.
Francis Chukwudebelu.
According to Eshiet, “Mbamara collected the
said sum from a customer, who bought goods
from the shop where he was staying with his
employer and converted it to his personal use.
“He, however, ran to Nnewi in Anambra State,
where police apprehended him.”
The prosecutor said that the offence was
punishable under Section 285(1) of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mr. W. B. Balogun, granted
the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with
two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a blood
relation to the defendant and then adjourned
the case till November 25.
