PLSG THREATENS TO CLOSE ANY SCHOOL RESISTING POLIO IMMUNIZATION


                                                                                         

Plateau State government has threaten to
close down any school caught rejecting Polio
Immunization in its premises.

Governor Simon Lalong gave the warning
yesterday while performing the official launch
of the European Union Support to
Immunization Governance in Nigerian (EU-
SIGN) project in the sate held at the Banquet
Hall, Government House, little Rayfield, Jos.

Lalong who was represented by his Deputy,
Prof. Sonni Tyoden said government has
received cases of rejection of polio
immunization officers and that government
would hence forth close down any school
found rejecting immunization officials access
to its premises.

Lalong said it was the responsibility of school
management to inform parents about the
development before admitting their wards in
any school, adding that his administration was
committed to the provision of qualitative
healthcare delivery to all citizens in the state.

He commended EU-SIGN and its partners for
their commitment to polio immunization
programme in the state, noting that the
success story 7 years of polio free could not
have been possible without the assistance of
EU-SIGN and its partners, assuring that
government will continue to sustain the
partnership payment counterpart funds.

Team leader EU-SIGN, Dr. James Attah
commended the Plateau State government
commitment to Polio Immunization activities
in the state, adding that the state was the
best in the country.

He disclosed that EU-SIGN has donated cold
chain equipment to support polio immunization
in the state, adding that the state would
benefit more from the organization.

Executive secretary National Health Care
Development Agency, Dr Uche Uzona
represented by Dr Garba El-Rufai, Head of
Routine Immunization in the agency
appreciate the role of traditional rulers in the
state in supporting polio immunization and
pledged the support of the agency to the
state government in its effort to achieve a free
polio society.

While giving an over view of EU-SIGN support
programme in Nigeria, Technical Assistant
Solomon Tersa disclosed that over 50 million
Euro has been donated in support of
immunization activities in the country and
assured of more assistance to the state.

Plateau State Executive Secretary Primary
Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Livinus
Miapkwap commended the state government
immunization release of N30 million for routine
immunization.

He thanked EU-SIGN for building cold chain
rooms in Jos-North, Bassa and Barkin Ladi
local government areas.

Goodwill message also came from the Plateau
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kuden
Kamshak and his counterpart that of Local
Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dayabu
Garga, Chairman House Committee on Health
in the Plateau State House of Assembly,

Simon Kudu and the Emir of Kanam who is
also the representative of the state traditional
council in the northern traditional committee
on polio immunization, Mohammadu Babangida
Muazu who all applauded the contributions
EU-SIGN in polio eradication in the state.
